Re: FANDOM: BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER.

In Prague, the trees are silent and dark and shadowed with empty spaces like discarded pieces of fairytales between which the witches beckon children to follow at their heels. Drusilla can smell them, can taste their candy-tainted breath in the air. Her tongue between her lips, and everything sharpens into focus. They are already home.

Spike's black nail grazes her lower lip, his palm tipping up her chin. "What d'you think?"

"I like it here," she says; "it sings—"

And it does, until the winged things open their throats as they fly away and she feels their shrieks shuddering down the bones of our spine.

"And it destroys. It has us in its beak."

She can feel it, the sharp edge of the bird and the future against her skin, the potential to shred pressing against her, all promises to tear her apart. Still, she can't bring herself to be afraid. It does no good to fret and coo, not when the blood beats in her veins and there is blood so deep in the ground of the paths they walk.

"Poetry's no good without pointed edges," she says, nipping the skin of his finger to the breaking point. If there's one thing her William understands—

"All the bloody poetry I need's in you, pet."

He has always understood. Poetry, bloody poetry: she sighs in exultation. "Promise it."

"It's a promise."

"Even if the place takes me in its claws and consumes me scrap by scrap."

"Won't happen, love." He cocks his head, hands exploring her body like clever beasts. "Immortal, remember?"

"Yes," she says, nourishing the wilful creatures. So they are, so they ever shall be: the poems and fairytales always are. And witches die, but before that they live. They die with the taste of children on their tongue; they die to be remade. Spike swallows her mouth and the story dies in words. For a moment there is nothing around them but the shadows of a whiting sky making no marks on their twining skins.

A crow flies overhead. Fate curls around them in the forest. Drusilla closes her eyes and loves more than ever the things she sees.

Re: FANDOM: BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER.

Breath taking. I'm speechless. *re-reads* Utterly and darkly gorgeous, pitch perfect Drusilla's voice, and a haunting atmosphere. Thank you so much. This exceeded my expectations. You wrote something good here and you should feel proud of that.

What is the title by the way?

Re: FANDOM: BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER.

I kept the title from the prompt: "a carrion crow sat under an oak". Too gorgeous an image not to.

And, god, I love these two with everything in me; since I started watching BtVS (which was quite recent), they've been my immediate favorite thing, my unsurpassable OTP, and the only thing I've written fic for in the fandom thus far. My adoration, it is vast. So: thank you.

Re: FANDOM: BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER.

Its from an old nursery rhyme I found here. I saw it and it just screamed Drusilla.

Oh, you're a newbie? Do you need recs? Because Dru/Spike is my favorite Spike pairing and I've read quite a bit of them over the years. Your welcome. I hope that you continue writing such great Dru/Spike fic. Drusilla also appears on Angel too in the second season so make sure you take a crack at Angel. The second season is fantastic television with appearances by Dru, Spike and Darla in a lot of flashbacks.

Re: FANDOM: BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER.

I started watching it this summer (and Angel concurrently when it started up), so I'm mid-season-6 right now, s3 on Angel. Lovely. If you have recs, they're all kinds of welcome. Meanwhile, here are the two I've written:

my god, the way it feels (Drusilla-centric, around "What's My Line" in s2)

the cellar door is an open throat. (Spike-centric, around "Lover's Walk" in s3)

I also kind of wrote an essay about the ship after "Fool For Love" because it was too perfect not to. Couldn't deal with it, onslaught of prolix ensued. LOVE THEM SO VERY MUCH.

Re: FANDOM: BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER.

thanks for the links! *saves for later* Can't have too much Dru/Spike fic in my life.

Well, I hope you continue to enjoy the series. It was my first fandom and I'm very fond of it.
